Customer Reviews

We purchased the Orbit Infant Car Seat G2 System for our daughter (who is now six months old as I am writing this review). It looked so sleek, modern and functional. I love the stroller, the diaper bag, the addition of the panniers is awesome and I have the accessories which work well, BUT both my daughter and I have grown to hate the infant car seat. First of all, I will tell you the positives: the rotation base is very convenient; the sun shade is awesome; the materials are top notch; the accessories (bug cover and rain cover) are very nice; and the built-in cover is wonderful (it keeps baby sheltered from the elements). Okay, now to the reasons we dislike it. It is extremely narrow and deep. This means if you have a larger than average child (mine is in the 70th percentiles for height and weight) she will not fit comfortably in it for very long. As a newborn to about 6 weeks, she was okay with it. After that, she started to scream bloody murder, because her shoulders were scrunched by the narrow width and she hated that she really couldn't see out (it's just so deep and the sides are straight--safe, but isolating). It became a battle every time we had to go somewhere. (Please note that I even took out the head support and did not add any additional products (i.e., a piddle pad, etc.)). I thought perhaps she just didn't like being in ANY car seat, so I tested the theory: I bought another car seat (Chicco) and put her in it without any protests. She immediately smiled when she realized she could actually see out of the thing. Sigh. I was so bummed to have spent the money on the Orbit and have her hate it (and then to have to buy another--doh!). I still have the stroller chassis and I use it with the Orbit Baby toddler stroller seat (which I love and so does my daughter). I have to take her out of the car seat and put her into it, though, and that is no fun and pretty much impractical in the winter months. It is also a little hard to maneuver and a bit on the heavy side. I find the Chicco easier to carry in and out of daycare than the Orbit, even with the strap they say is designed to make it easier to carry because it is supposed to hug your body. I ended up having to use two hands and carried it as if I were putting it on the base...that was really a challenge when I had to open doors, etc. Lastly, there is a lot of space (because of its depth) from the middle buckle to the base where your child's bottom is supposed to sit. This created a strange gap of space and made it really hard to feel like I wasn't tightening the belts too much (and my daughter didn't like how it curved her body--she would wiggle and struggle to find a place to "sit" her bottom--if you look at the seat, you'll see the distance between the buckle and the back of the seat and you'll wonder how it can really be a "seat"). If Orbit would only make it a bit wider and not so deep, I would recommend it with little hesitation. I'd like to also note that I am writing this after Orbit Baby announced that this infant car seat can now be used up to 30 pounds and 32 inches. I think that is great from a safety perspective, but I believe to really be able to use this seat for that long it needs to be wider and the part where the baby's bottom is to fit and where the legs extend need to be redesigned to fit a larger child comfortably. Even had my daughter been comfortable in it, I did recently put her in it again (hoping she might reconsider and like it now that she was older) and she was quite frankly almost too big for it (she weighs 18 pounds and is about 28 inches). Hopefully, this is helpful to you. If you have a small baby, it might just be the perfect seat for you, but it's hard to predict that so I wouldn't take my chances.

I love how easy this docks and goes into the car but my daughter never seemed really comfy in there. She is a pretty sever reflux baby and would just throw up till she was empty everytime she was put in here. So we took the bassinet with us and would just transfer her into that when we went walking. I have never tried her in another car set so i am sure it is not a problem with the orbit but more with her reflux. Regardless we have every item of orbit and recently upgraded to the G2 version of them all. As an update she is now 7 months old and is actually quite comfy in this seat and will probably outgrow it in the next 6 weeks
